Why launching ads in Meta Ads Manager takes an evening once you pass ten ads
It is not you, and it is not your internet. Ads Manager optimises for building one ad carefully, and every one of those choices becomes a tax when you multiply by fifty. Here are the five taxes and how to stop paying them.
One ad well, fifty ads slowly
Ads Manager is a good tool for building one ad carefully: every option is visible, every default is sensible for a first-time advertiser, and nothing goes out without a review step. Multiply that by fifty ads a week and the same qualities turn into five distinct taxes. Naming them is the first step to not paying them.
Tax 1: one ad per form
There is no "create these fifty" action for creatives. Every ad is a form, filled top to bottom, submitted, then the next. The native shortcuts (duplicate, "add media" for multiple variations, the spreadsheet import) each reduce some clicks and add their own handling; none of them turns a folder into ads. The arithmetic for 100 ads is in how long 100 Meta ads take: about 2 minutes 20 seconds per ad by hand before anything goes wrong.
Tax 2: defaults you did not choose
A new ad starts from Meta's defaults, and a duplicate is a new ad. So the settings you care about (enhancements off, the right Page, your UTMs) have to be re-applied on every creative, because the platform's default is not your default. The Advantage+ enhancement opt-out is the clearest case: Meta documents no account-wide off switch, only a per-creative setting that is mostly on by default, so every duplicate and import is a place where the platform's choice wins again unless you opt out explicitly.
Tax 3: naming is manual
Every duplicate is "Copy of ...". Every rename is typed. Reporting depends on those names being identical in structure, and fifty typed names are not identical. The cost shows up a month later, when a breakdown by ad name has rows nobody can attribute. The naming convention guide explains why the fix is a pattern applied at creation, not discipline.
Tax 4: the correction time is invisible
By hand, corrections are spread across fifty ads: a wrong image here, a missed toggle there, a URL without UTMs. Each takes a minute, none is counted, and together they are the difference between the ninety minutes you planned and the evening it took. Worse, the corrections you do not notice run with budget behind them. That is why the pre-launch QA checklist exists, and why it only works if the batch lands paused.
Tax 5: no batch concept
Ads Manager has campaigns, ad sets and ads; it does not have "the 40 ads I launched on Tuesday". Finding them again means filtering by name (back to tax 3), setting them live one selection at a time, and pausing them one selection at a time if something is wrong. A batch is a unit of work you should be able to review, launch and roll back as one thing.
What to change
You do not have to leave Ads Manager to stop paying most of this. The order matters:
- Decide the account defaults once and write them down. Identity, pixel, copy, destination and UTM template, naming pattern, enhancement policy, DSA fields. Per ad account. See managing multiple ad accounts for the list.
- Export creatives to a locked preset with the naming in the file name, so the file carries the metadata. See image specs for bulk launches.
- Never launch live from a bulk action. Everything paused, then a sample review, then live in one selection.
- When the copies differ only by creative, stop duplicating and batch-create. That is the line where a tool pays for itself; the three methods compared shows where it sits.
What Adlio removes
Adlio is the "batch-create" step made literal: connect Facebook once, store the defaults per ad account, drop a folder, and every file becomes a paused ad with the naming, UTMs and enhancement opt-out already applied. The five taxes become one review of a paused batch. It does not make Ads Manager faster; it stops sending you there fifty times.

Frequently asked questions
Is Ads Manager actually slower than it used to be?+
The interface has grown, not slowed: more creative options, more enhancement toggles, more per-ad decisions. Each is reasonable for one ad. The per-ad cost went up, and the number of ads people launch went up with creative testing, so the evening got longer from both sides.
Does a faster computer or browser help?+
Marginally. The time is in the number of decisions and clicks per ad and in the corrections afterwards, not in page load. Removing per-ad decisions (by storing them once per account) does more than any hardware.
What is the first thing to change?+
Stop creating ads from defaults. Decide identity, pixel, copy, URL and UTMs, naming pattern and enhancement policy once per ad account, write them down, and make every ad inherit them, either through a strict template you duplicate from or through a tool that applies them at creation.
