Google Drive or Dropbox to Meta ads: three ways to launch creatives that live in the cloud

Ads Manager cannot read your Drive folder, and most of the friction people blame on "uploading" is actually the hop from cloud storage to the browser. There are three ways to make that hop; two of them are free.

The gap nobody names

Creative teams deliver to a shared folder. Ads Manager uploads from a device. Everything between those two is manual, and it is a surprisingly large share of the time a launch takes: find the folder, download, unzip, find the files again, upload one by one. If you launch every week, that hop alone is worth fixing.

Method 1: desktop sync (free, keeps file names)

Install Google Drive for desktop or the Dropbox client and let the creative folder sync to your machine. From then on the cloud folder is a local folder:

  • Ads Manager's file picker can open it directly.
  • A folder-drop uploader like Adlio can take the whole folder in one drag.
  • File names stay exactly as exported, which is what keeps your naming pattern and carousel card order intact.

Two settings to check: make the creative folder "available offline" (or "mirror") so files are physically present, not placeholders, and keep the folder out of your screenshot or downloads clutter so a batch is one clean drag.

This is the method we recommend for almost everyone. It costs nothing and it removes the hop rather than moving it.

Method 2: download a batch (free, but watch the names)

Select the files in the Drive or Dropbox web interface, download, unzip. Works, and it is what most people do today. Three things go wrong often enough to mention:

  • Bulk downloads arrive as a zip, sometimes split into several.
  • Duplicated names get (1) suffixes, which breaks any naming convention derived from file names.
  • Files from shared drives can arrive with characters stripped or spaces changed.

If you use this method, check the names after unzipping and before uploading. The naming convention guide explains why the file name is the one field you cannot afford to lose.

Method 3: a tool with a cloud import (paid)

Some launch tools connect to your Drive or Dropbox account and pull files from a folder you point at. Ads Uploader offers a Google Drive import; AdManage connects to Drive, Dropbox, Box and several creative platforms. The convenience is real: no local step at all, and the tool sees new files as the creative team adds them.

The trade is another OAuth connection to a cloud account that usually holds more than ad creatives, and you are tied to that tool's folder conventions. For a team where creatives are produced elsewhere and dropped into one shared folder, it is a fair trade; for a solo buyer with a synced folder, method 1 gets you the same result without the extra connection.

What Adlio does

Adlio takes a local folder: images become image ads, videos become video ads (resumable upload up to 4 GB), image groups become carousels, and every ad lands paused with your saved naming, UTMs and enhancement opt-out. With a synced Drive or Dropbox folder that is a two-step launch: open the folder, drop it. We do not offer a native Drive connection today; if that connection is essential to you, the tools in method 3 are the honest recommendation.

Keep the source of truth in the folder

Whichever method you use, the folder is where the metadata should live: concept, hook, format, ratio and version in the file name, agreed with whoever produces the creatives. Then Drive, Dropbox, the download and the uploader all carry the same information, and the ad name in Ads Manager still points back to the exact file. The pre-launch QA checklist assumes exactly that.

Frequently asked questions

Can Meta Ads Manager import ads directly from Google Drive?+

No. Ads Manager uploads from your device (or picks from media already in the ad account). To use files from Drive or Dropbox you either sync them to a local folder, download them, or use a third-party tool that connects to the cloud account.

Does Adlio import from Google Drive?+

Not directly. Adlio uploads from a folder on your machine. With Google Drive for desktop or the Dropbox client that folder can be your synced cloud folder, so the workflow is: open the synced folder, drop it into Adlio, launch. Ads Uploader and AdManage offer a native Drive import if you want the cloud connection inside the tool.

Why do my file names change when I download from Drive?+

Bulk downloads from the Drive web interface arrive as a zip and can rename duplicates with (1) suffixes; shared drives sometimes strip characters. Desktop sync keeps the original names, which matters if your ad names or carousel card order are derived from them.
