Launch every Meta ad paused: the pre-flight QA checklist for bulk batches
A batch of 40 ads with one wrong destination URL is 40 wrong ads. Creating everything paused turns launch day from a gamble into a review. Here is the review.
Why paused is the only sane default
When you create one ad by hand you look at it before you publish. When a tool or an import creates 40 ads, nobody looks at 40 ads. If those 40 ads go live on creation, the first review happens after the first euro is spent.
So the rule: anything that creates ads in bulk should create them paused. Not "scheduled for tomorrow", not "active with a small budget". Paused. Then you run a short, fixed review, and set the batch live yourself. Adlio does this by design: it can not create an active ad. The checklist below is the review we run on our own batches; it takes five to ten minutes for a batch of any size, because you check a sample, not every ad.
The 9 checks
Open the batch in Ads Manager (filter by the batch's name prefix), open two or three ads from different parts of the batch, and go down the list.
1. Identity: Page and Instagram account
Confirm the ad runs from the right Facebook Page and, if you use Instagram placements, the right Instagram account. Wrong identity is common when you manage several brands and it is not visible in the ad list; you have to open the ad. If the Instagram account is missing from the identity dropdown altogether, see Instagram account not showing in Ads Manager.
2. Pixel and conversion event
Check that the ad set's optimisation event points at the right pixel and the right event. On a new ad set this is where a copied default from another account shows up. Which pixel belongs to which ad account, and how to keep them apart, is in one Facebook pixel per ad account.
3. Destination URL
Click it. Not "read it", click it. The page should load, be the page you intended, and not redirect through something unexpected.
4. UTM parameters
Look at the URL parameters field on the ad (Meta appends these at click time). Confirm the parameters are present, in your standard order, and that the dynamic values resolved: a campaign name with spaces should be encoded, a token like {{ad.name}} should show as the token, since Meta resolves it per click. If you use a UTM template per ad account, one wrong account setting shows up here first.
5. Ad name and naming pattern
Every ad in the batch should follow the same pattern with no "Copy of" and no typos. This is the check that decides whether your reporting breakdown works in a month. A naming convention applied at creation makes this a glance; applied by hand it is a scan of 40 rows.
6. Advantage+ creative enhancements
Open the Advantage+ creative section on the ad. Every enhancement you did not opt into should read off. Do this on a freshly created ad from the batch, because the setting lives on the creative and a new creative starts from Meta's defaults. 7. Creative preview per placement
Preview Feed, Stories and Reels. Check that crops, safe zones and text are what you uploaded. If step 6 passed, this usually passes too; if it does not, something upstream (an aspect-ratio pairing, a wrong file) needs fixing before launch, not after.
8. Budget, schedule and status
For a new ad set: budget level (campaign or ad set), amount, start date, and that nothing is scheduled to start before you finish the review. For an existing ad set: adding 40 ads changes how the budget is distributed; make sure that is what you want.
9. EU advertiser identity (DSA)
For ads that can be shown in the EU, the beneficiary and payer fields have to be set. Missing values block delivery in the EU with an error that only appears after activation. If your tool fills these from the account settings, confirm they are the right legal entity for this account.
Then set it live, in one action
With the batch still filtered by name prefix: select all, set active. Because everything was paused, "live" now means "reviewed and live". Write down the time; if something is off in the first hour, you know exactly which batch to pause, and the name filter finds it in seconds.
What Adlio does with this list
Adlio creates every ad paused and pulls checks 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 9 from settings you store once per ad account: Page and Instagram identity, default pixel, UTM template, naming pattern, enhancement toggles, DSA beneficiary and payer. Those settings never cross accounts, so a client A default can not appear on a client B ad. The remaining checks (URL click-through, placement previews, budget) are yours, and they are the ones worth a human's attention.

Frequently asked questions
Does creating ads paused delay learning or delivery?+
No. A paused ad has not entered review or delivery yet. When you set it active, Meta reviews it and starts delivery exactly as it would have if you had published it active. You lose the minutes you spend checking, nothing else.
Can I set a whole batch live at once in Ads Manager?+
Yes. Filter the ad list by name (a consistent naming pattern makes this a one-word filter), select all, and use the status toggle or the bulk edit to set them active together. This is also why the naming check is on the list: it is what makes the batch findable later.
What is the single most expensive mistake in a bulk launch?+
A wrong or untagged destination URL. Every other error shows up in Ads Manager within a day; a URL that points to the wrong page, or misses its UTMs, spends the full budget and leaves you with no attributable data. Check it on at least two ads per batch, and click through.
