Product browsing is being added to existing Meta ads from October 28, 2026: what it is and how to turn it off

A notice some advertisers received in October 2026 says Meta will add "product browsing" to existing ads from October 28. Meta has not published the notice. Here is what product browsing is according to Meta's help, where the switch is, what the notice does not say about scope, and the two API fields that control it.

The short answer

Product browsing is an Advantage+ creative enhancement that changes where a tap on your ad goes. Meta's help page describes it as "a personalized browsing experience that can feature product details, offers and more on Facebook and Instagram when they tap the image or video in your ad", after which people "will then be led to your website". Meta's own note: "this enhancement may send people to an experience on Facebook and Instagram first before your website."

In October 2026 some advertisers received a notice that Meta will add it to ads that already exist: "Starting October 28, 2026, we'll add product browsing to your existing ads." The switch, per the notice, is in each ad's "Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings". On the API side there are two controls, not one: the product_browsing key in creative_features_spec, and, on Marketing API v26.0, a new destination default (WEBSITE_AND_SHOP) with its own opt-out. If you launch at volume, you want both written into the creative, not clicked per ad.

What Meta has published, and what it has not

Meta's help page on Advantage+ creative (fetched October 24, 2026) documents the enhancement and, for the related product tags feature, says it "may be turned on by default" when you "create a campaign using the traffic or sales objective and have an eligible catalog". The page does not list product browsing among the enhancements that are on by default.

The notice about existing ads is not on any Meta page we could find. The Keyword's report of October 19, 2026 quotes three fragments: the headline above, a description that people who tap the ad "may see an experience on Facebook or Instagram with product info and personalized suggestions", and the opt-out line. The report's only source is a screenshot a media buyer posted on LinkedIn on October 14. We did not receive the notice on our own accounts, so we quote it as reported, not as verified.

What the notice does not say, and The Keyword flags: whether the opt-out button in the notice covers one ad account or every account a business manages. For an agency with twelve client accounts that is the whole question. Until Meta says, assume per account and check each one.

Why this matters at the launch moment

An enhancement that redirects the tap changes what your landing page, your pixel and your attribution see. Whether that is good or bad for a given account is a performance question we are not going to answer with a claim; Meta's page says the experience is designed to improve performance and gives no number we can check. The operational point is independent of performance: an advertiser who set a destination and a UTM template expects the tap to go there. A destination Meta inserts "first" is a change to the ad you approved.

This is the same shape as every other Advantage+ default: the setting lives on the creative, a new creative starts from Meta's default, and anything that creates creatives without an explicit opt-out inherits it. Why enhancements come back covers the mechanism.

The two API controls

1. The enhancement key. product_browsing is one of the 69 creative_features_spec keys the live Marketing API accepts. Opting out means sending it with enroll_status: "OPT_OUT" on the creative, like this fragment:

{
  "degrees_of_freedom_spec": {
    "creative_features_spec": {
      "product_browsing": { "enroll_status": "OPT_OUT" }
    }
  }
}

We verified acceptance on August 31, 2026 and again on October 24, 2026 on Graph v26.0, for image, video and carousel creatives. The full list is at /advantage-plus-keys.

2. The destination default on v26. Meta's changelog for Graph API v26.0 (released July 29, 2026) adds, under "Website and Shop destination": "eligible ad creatives will automatically default to destination_spec.destination_type = WEBSITE_AND_SHOP when the advertiser has a shop. Advertisers can opt out by explicitly setting destination_type to WEBSITE_AND_SHOP_OPT_OUT." Affected endpoints: creating ad creatives and ads. This is a different field from the enhancement key. A tool that opts out of product_browsing but creates on v26 without setting destination_type gets the shop destination by default, if the advertiser has a shop.

Whether the October 28 notice is the interface face of this v26 default, or a separate rollout, Meta has not said. Treat them as two switches.

What to do

  • Got the notice? Use its opt-out before October 28 if you do not want the experience, then check an existing ad's Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings afterwards; the notice says the setting can be changed there "anytime".
  • Build ads by hand: check the Destination settings on one new ad per account, in Advanced preview too (the hidden-enhancements guide).
  • Create through the API or a tool: send product_browsing: OPT_OUT; on v26.0, set destination_spec.destination_type to WEBSITE_AND_SHOP_OPT_OUT if the account has a shop. Ask your vendor which API version it creates on.
  • Agencies: the scope of the notice's opt-out is undocumented. Check each client account separately after October 28.

How Adlio handles it

Adlio sends product_browsing as OPT_OUT on every creative, with the other 68 keys and the music opt-out. Adlio creates on Marketing API v25.0 today, so the v26 destination default does not apply to its creatives; the explicit WEBSITE_AND_SHOP_OPT_OUT ships with our move to v26.0 after a live test on our own account, and we will note the date here. Every ad lands paused, so the destination can be checked in Ads Manager before a dollar is spent. The batch flow is on bulk upload Facebook ads; the dated list of 2026 changes like this one is what changed at Meta in 2026.

Frequently asked questions

What is product browsing?+

An Advantage+ creative enhancement. Meta's About Advantage+ creative page (fetched October 24, 2026) describes it as giving people "a personalized browsing experience that can feature product details, offers and more on Facebook and Instagram when they tap the image or video in your ad. They'll then be led to your website to make purchases." Meta adds: "this enhancement may send people to an experience on Facebook and Instagram first before your website."

Will it be switched on for ads that already run?+

According to the notice quoted by The Keyword (October 19, 2026): "Starting October 28, 2026, we'll add product browsing to your existing ads." The notice says it can be turned on or off "anytime in your Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings". Meta has not published the notice itself; its only public trace is a screenshot a media buyer shared on LinkedIn on October 14. Whether one opt-out covers an ad account or a whole portfolio is not stated.

Which API field controls it?+

Two, on different objects. The enhancement is the creative_features_spec key product_browsing, which accepts enroll_status OPT_OUT; it has been in Adlio's verified list since August 31, 2026 and was accepted again on October 24, 2026 on Graph v26.0. Separately, Marketing API v26.0 (released July 29, 2026) makes eligible creatives default to destination_spec.destination_type = WEBSITE_AND_SHOP when the advertiser has a shop; the opt-out is WEBSITE_AND_SHOP_OPT_OUT.

Does Adlio switch it off?+

The product_browsing key: yes, OPT_OUT on every creative, like the other 68 keys. The v26 destination default: Adlio creates on Marketing API v25.0 today, where the default does not apply; the explicit WEBSITE_AND_SHOP_OPT_OUT goes in with the move to v26 after a live test on our own account, and this article will say when.
