Meta Ads Manager and Marketing API changes in 2026 that affect bulk launches (living list)

Not a news feed. One entry per change that alters what a batch of Meta ads launches with in 2026: a new default, a removed control, an API deadline, a new actor, a new term. Each with its date, Meta's own words where they exist, a note when they do not, and what to do before the next launch.

How to read this list

One rule decides what is on it: does the change alter what a batch of ads launches with, or what happens to ads already running, without the advertiser doing anything? New dashboards, new objectives, new generators you have to click are left out. For each entry: the date, the source, what changes at the launch moment, and what to do. Where Meta has published nothing, the entry says so; several of the biggest 2026 changes reached advertisers only as in-product notices.

Last full check: October 24, 2026. Entries are in date order.

March 2026: your Advantage+ opt-out is now saved (for ads you build by hand)

Source: Meta spokesperson Alisha Swinteck to Marketing Brew, April 7, 2026: as of March, advertisers who opt out keep "that preference saved for future campaigns rather than returned to a default opt-in", and are not penalized for opting out. No Meta help page states this.

At the launch moment: only for ads created in Ads Manager under the login that opted out. Meta's help page still says "some enhancements are turned on by default", and a creative created through the API without an explicit opt-out gets the default. Details: do Advantage+ enhancements turn back on.

Do: keep sending the per-key OPT_OUT on every creative created by any tool, import or agent.

April 29, 2026: AI agents can create ads in your account

Source: Meta for Business, "Introducing Meta Ads AI Connectors": Meta's ads MCP server and CLI, open beta, "Create and edit ads, ad sets, and campaigns using natural language", "no developer credentials, API setup, or coding required".

At the launch moment: a new kind of actor creates ads, with Meta's defaults for everything the conversation does not mention. The read of the tool schemas is in Meta's ads MCP vs a bulk uploader.

Do: decide per ad account whether agents may create anything, and through which layer.

July 16, 2026: MCP server rules, and third-party apps on Meta's MCP

Source: update on the same Meta page: "connect any AI application directly to Meta ads using your own developer app", and "ads MCP server rules, giving anyone with full control of a business portfolio the ability to govern what AI agents can do on their ad account, from budget changes to catalog updates."

At the launch moment: budgets and campaign creation can be fenced per portfolio; creative defaults, naming and DSA cannot. Meta's ads MCP server rules.

Do: set the rules in every portfolio you control; ask clients to set them in theirs.

July 29, 2026: Marketing API v26.0 released, with a shop destination default

Source: Graph API changelog, version 26.0 ("Released July 29, 2026 | Available until TBD"). Four items that touch launches:

  • "Starting in API v26.0, eligible ad creatives will automatically default to destination_spec.destination_type = WEBSITE_AND_SHOP when the advertiser has a shop. Advertisers can opt out by explicitly setting destination_type to WEBSITE_AND_SHOP_OPT_OUT." Affects creating ad creatives and ads.
  • Poll ads: "Poll ad creation deprecated. Applies to v26.0+. Applies to all Marketing API versions on October 27, 2026." Remove poll_spec and poll components from creative specs.
  • "The Instagram Explore Feed ad placement is removed and returns errors if specified. Messenger Stories placement is silently removed from messenger_positions." Developers using manual placements "should remove story".
  • Advantage+ Audience: "Require explicit advantage_audience for HEC-F campaigns with relaxable targeting", v26.0 at launch, mandatory for all versions once v25.0 is deprecated, "date TBD".

At the launch moment: a tool creating on v26 for an advertiser with a shop gets a shop destination unless it opts out; manual placement lists that name removed placements fail or are silently trimmed.

Do: know which API version your tool creates on; if v26, send WEBSITE_AND_SHOP_OPT_OUT when the account has a shop and you want the website; clean placement lists. Adlio creates on v25.0 today and adds the explicit destination opt-out with its move to v26 after a live test (product browsing has the detail).

August 20, 2026: placement exclusions leaving Sales and Leads ad sets (test)

Source: Jon Loomer, August 20, 2026, quoting the in-product notice: "Excluding placements, platforms, devices and operating systems will no longer be available for your ad sets." Scope per Loomer: Sales and Leads objectives, sensitive verticals excluded, requires the new multimedia workflow, described as a test, unofficial, no Meta documentation, no timeline.

At the launch moment: a new ad set in an affected account cannot exclude Audience Network, a platform, a device or an OS; account-level Placement Controls and value rules remain. What to do at volume.

Do: check your own ad set editor; move exclusions you rely on to Advertising Settings, Account Controls, Placement Controls.

October 6, 2026: agents upload, preview, and stage drafts

Source: Meta for Business, Advertising Week New York 2026: the ads MCP server now lets marketers "upload creative, preview ads as they'll appear on Facebook and Instagram", "agent-staged work now lands as a draft in Ads Manager", "every action is gated behind advertiser-set permissions and explicit approval before anything goes live". Partners named include AdManage.ai, Birch, Blip, Perplexity and Triple Whale.

At the launch moment: agent work arrives as drafts, which cannot be verified through the API until published; publishing can make objects active. Draft vs paused vs in review.

Do: decide which state your tools hand over in; paused is the one you can audit before spend.

October 28, 2026: product browsing added to existing ads (notice, no Meta page)

Source: an in-product notice reported by The Keyword on October 19, 2026 from a media buyer's LinkedIn screenshot: "Starting October 28, 2026, we'll add product browsing to your existing ads", switchable "anytime in your Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings". Meta's help page describes the enhancement; the notice itself is not published. Scope of the opt-out (ad account or portfolio) not stated.

At the launch moment: an enhancement that may send the tap "to an experience on Facebook and Instagram first before your website", on ads already running. API key: product_browsing; related v26 destination default above. Product browsing: what it is and how to turn it off.

Do: use the notice's opt-out before October 28 if you received it; check each client account after; send product_browsing: OPT_OUT on every creative.

October 27, 2026: v26 behaviors enforced on every Marketing API version

Source: Graph API changelog, version 26.0: poll ad creation and the Commerce Order Management API (47 endpoints, "no replacement API is available") "applies to all remaining Graph API versions on October 27, 2026".

At the launch moment: a creative spec that still carries poll components fails from this date whatever version you call. "Updates that do not change the creative can continue."

Do: grep your payloads and templates for poll_spec and interactive_components_spec.

November 20, 2026: the AI Features clause in the Commercial Terms

Source: Meta's Commercial Terms preview, "Effective Date: November 20, 2026" (fetched October 24, 2026). Core sentence: "You are solely responsible for and assume any and all risks associated with such AI features and any resulting Content", plus "You are solely responsible for the acts or omissions of any third-party software or service that you use or authorize". The Keyword (October 23, 2026) reports the date moved from October 30 after complaints.

At the launch moment: nothing changes in the payload; what changes is who carries the risk of what the payload left at default. The AI Features clause, and the record to keep.

Do: per ad, be able to show who created it, through what, and the stored enhancement state.

What Adlio does with this list

Every entry that touches the launch payload is checked against the live API with our probe scripts before Adlio changes anything; the Advantage+ key list was re-verified on October 24, 2026 on Graph v26.0 (all 69 keys plus the music opt-out accepted, list at /advantage-plus-keys). Changes that need a payload change (the v26 destination opt-out) ship after a live test on our own account and are dated here. Everything Adlio creates lands paused, so a default Meta introduces between two launches is visible in Ads Manager before it costs anything. The batch flow is on bulk upload Facebook ads.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a change not on this list?+

Because it does not change what an ad launches with. New reporting columns, new campaign types you have to choose, new creative generators you have to click: not here. A default that applies to ads you did not touch, a control that disappears from the ad set, an API version that stops accepting a field: here.

Where does Meta publish these changes?+

In three places that do not overlap: the Graph API changelog on developers.facebook.com, the Meta for Business newsroom, and the Business Help Center. Several 2026 changes that affect existing ads reached advertisers only as in-product notices and have no public Meta page; the list says so for each one.

How often is this list updated?+

Monthly, with our search measurement, and immediately when a change touches the launch payload Adlio sends. The updatedAt date of this page is real: it moves only when the content moves.
