The Advantage+ enhancements you can only turn off in Advanced preview

Meta's own instructions say that some Advantage+ creative enhancements "can only be turned off in advanced preview, and won't be visible in the ad creative". Here is where that tab is, the two places you have to check, and the one view that shows every enhancement at once: the API.

The short answer

When you switch Advantage+ creative enhancements off in Ads Manager, the list you see under Enhancements is not the whole list. Meta's instructions, fetched October 24, 2026, say so twice: "some enhancements can only be turned off in advanced preview, and won't be visible in the ad creative. To review the status of all enhancements, check both sections."

Advanced preview is the expanded ad preview on the right. It has a Placements tab and an Advantage+ creative tab, and the second one holds enhancement cards that the main section does not show. If your checklist says "turn off enhancements" and stops at the main section, it is incomplete by Meta's own description.

Where the second section is

Meta's steps for a new ad, verbatim where it matters:

  1. In the ad creative, click Set up creative and go to Enhancements. "Turn off individual Advantage+ creative enhancements or customize some of the enhancements, if applicable."
  2. "In the ad preview, click expand to see advanced preview."
  3. In Advanced preview: "click the placements tab to see how the enhancement can vary depending on ad placements", then "click the Advantage+ creative tab and use the arrows on each enhancement card to see the possible variations, click customize to customize the enhancement, or turn the enhancement on or off."
  4. Save, finish the ad, publish.

For an ad that is already published: select it, click Edit, go to the Advantage+ creative section ("you'll see the number of enhancements turned on"), click Edit, switch off what you see, then expand Advanced preview and repeat for the cards there.

That "number of enhancements turned on" counter is the one honest number in the interface. If it does not read zero after you did the main section, the rest is in Advanced preview.

What hides there

Meta does not publish which enhancements live only in Advanced preview, and we are not going to invent a list. What we can show is the gap between what Ads Manager names and what the API accepts.

Ads Manager labels eleven enhancements in its main section (Visual touch-ups, Text improvements, Add overlays, Adjust brightness and contrast, Image animation, Generate backgrounds, Expand image, Enhance CTA, Translate text, Profile end card, Dynamic description). The live Marketing API accepts 69 creative_features_spec keys for image, video and carousel creatives; we established that by probing a real account on August 31, 2026 and re-ran it on October 24, 2026 on Graph v26.0 with the same result. The full list, grouped, is at /advantage-plus-keys.

Among the 58 keys without a main-section label are names that match features Meta describes elsewhere: show_summary, reveal_details_over_time, show_destination_blurbs, creative_stickers (Meta's "sticker CTAs"), product_extensions and product_browsing (described on the About Advantage+ creative page), site_extensions, text_overlay_translation, translate_voiceover. Which of these appear as cards in Advanced preview, and for which formats, depends on the ad and the account; Meta's page says enhancements vary "depending on the ad format or ad placements you select". Our point is narrower: the API knows 69 switches, the main section shows eleven, and Meta tells you to look in a second place for the rest.

The one view that shows everything

Ads Manager has two sections. The API has one field. Request a creative with:

GET /<creative_id>?fields=degrees_of_freedom_spec

The response lists every key with its enroll_status. A key that is missing from the response is not off; in our August 2026 read-back, keys we had not sent came back OPT_IN. The API audit guide walks through the call for people who have never used the Graph API Explorer. Two more facts for that audit: music is not a creative_features_spec key at all but asset_feed_spec.audios (empty list means off), and the retired umbrella key standard_enhancements fails the whole creative if you send it.

What this means at volume

Checking two sections per ad is fine for five ads. For a batch of 60, it is where errors come from: the person doing the review checks the main section, sees the toggles off, and never expands the preview. Our rule for any batch, whoever created it: open one or two ads, read the counter in the Advantage+ creative section, and if you can, read the creative back through the API.

How Adlio handles it

Adlio does not rely on either section. Every creative it creates carries an explicit OPT_OUT for all 69 keys the live API accepts, plus an empty audios list, so the API read-back is all OPT_OUT and Ads Manager's counter reads zero in both sections. The ad lands paused, so you can verify before it spends. Start on bulk upload Facebook ads, and if you only want to verify what you already have, the pre-launch QA checklist is the five-minute version.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Advanced preview in Ads Manager?+

In the ad preview on the right of the ad setup. Meta's steps, fetched October 24, 2026: "In the ad preview, click expand to see advanced preview." Inside it, the Placements tab shows how an enhancement varies per placement, and the Advantage+ creative tab shows one card per enhancement with arrows for the variations, a Customize button, and the on/off switch.

Which enhancements are only in Advanced preview?+

Meta does not publish a list. Its help page says only that "some enhancements can only be turned off in advanced preview, and won't be visible in the ad creative. To review the status of all enhancements, check both sections." Our own mapping, from the 69 API keys the live Marketing API accepts, is in the article; treat it as our observation, not Meta's documentation.

Does bulk edit reach the hidden ones?+

Meta has a separate help page for bulk editing Advantage+ creative enhancements, linked from the turn-off instructions. We have not verified that the bulk editor exposes the enhancements that are hidden in the single-ad editor. Open one edited ad afterwards, expand Advanced preview, and look at both sections.

Is there a way to see every enhancement at once?+

Yes, outside Ads Manager: request the creative through the Marketing API with the field degrees_of_freedom_spec. Every key Meta knows comes back with OPT_IN or OPT_OUT, including the ones the interface does not show in the main section. Adlio writes OPT_OUT for all 69 accepted keys into every creative, so that read-back is all OPT_OUT.
